Born and brought up in Kinross-shire and now based in Glasgow, I am a theatre maker, writer and performer. I work in Scots and English writing for performance, as well as writing prose – formerly in my monthly column for The National. I am also a performer and have worked in theatre and audio.
I studied at the University of Edinburgh and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I was an academic studying the work of Scottish poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay before I moved into theatre. I prefer being an academic theatrical to my life as a theatrical academic.
I am a minority language activist and a native Scots speaker. I am also a member of the Scottish Green Party and passionate about climate justice.
